Pradhan Mantri Ujjwal Yojana is on a mission to help LPG connections to many households in our country. The Union Government has created a social welfare scheme known as "Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana" with the slogan "Swachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan." The 'Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana' (PMUY) was launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) in May 2016 as a flagship scheme with the goal of making clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to rural and deprived households who were previously reliant on traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, and cow-dung cakes. The use of traditional cooking fuels had a negative influence on both rural women's health and the environment.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana purpose was to connect 8 Crore low-income families to LPG. The 8 Crore LPG connection was given over by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which has provided 8 Crore LPG connections, has also helped to increase LPG coverage from 62% on May 1, 2016 to 99.8% on April 1, 2021. In the Union Budget for FY 21-22, an additional 1 crore LPG connections were made accessible under the PMUY plan. During this time, migrant families are given special consideration.
